2026 Changes to State Minimum Wages

 

Each state, and in some cases each county or city, is responsible for setting its own minimum wage laws. Below are each state’s minimum wage listings with upcoming 2026 changes noted. Only states with changes in 2026 are listed. Depending on where you live, you may also need to check the laws in your city or county to see if there is a different minimum wage rate.

 

Alaska

Current State Minimum Rate: $11.91/hr

Starting July 1, 2026: $14.00/hr

 

Arizona

Current State Minimum Rate: $14.70/hr, $11.70/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $15.15/hr, $12.15/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

California

Current State Minimum Rate: $16.50/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $16.90/hr

** Note: The above figures represent California state minimum wages, however, numerous local jurisdictions in California have their own minimum wage rates. Please research the minimum wage rate in your local jurisdiction.

 

Colorado

Current Minimum Rate: $14.81/hr, $11.79/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $15.16/hr, $12.14 – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Connecticut

Current Minimum Rate: $16.35/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $16.94/hr

 

Florida

Current Minimum Rate: $14.00/hr, $10.98/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting September 30, 2026: $15.00/hr, $11.98/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Hawaii

Current Minimum Rate: $14.00/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $16.00/hr

 

Maine

Current Minimum Rate: $14.65/hr, $7.33/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $15.10/hr, $7.55/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Michigan

Current Minimum Rate: $12.48/hr, $4.74/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $13.73/hr

Starting February 1, 2026: $5.49/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Minnesota

Current Minimum Rate: $11.13/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $11.41/hr

 

Missouri

Current Minimum Rate: $13.75/hr, $6.88/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $15.00/hr, $7.50/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Montana

Current Minimum Rate: $10.55/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $10.85/hr

 

Nebraska

Current Minimum Rate: $13.50/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $15.00/hr

 

New Jersey

Current Minimum Rate: $15.49/hr (for employers with 6 or more employees), $14.53/hr (for seasonal and employers with less than 6 employees), $5.62/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $15.92/hr (for employers with 6 or more employees), $15.23/hr (for seasonal and employers with less than 6 employees), $6.05/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

New York (NYC, Suffolk, Nassau and Westchester)

Current Minimum Rate: $16.50/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $17.00/hr

 

New York (all other areas outside of NYC, Suffolk, Nassau and Westchester)

Current Minimum Rate: $15.50/hr

Starting January 1, 2025: $16.00/hr

 

Ohio

Current Minimum Rate: $10.70/hr (only those employers with annual gross receipts of more than $394,000 per year), $5.35/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $11.00/hr, $5.50/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Rhode Island

Current Minimum Rate: $15.00/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $16.00/hr

 

South Dakota

Current Minimum Rate: $11.50/hr, $5.75/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $11.85/hr, $5.925/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Vermont

Current Minimum Rate: $14.01/hr, $7.01/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2026: $14.42/hr, $7.21/hr – Tipped Minimum Wage

 

Virginia

Current Minimum Rate: $12.41/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $12.77/hr

 

Washington

Current Minimum Rate: $16.66/hr

Starting January 1, 2026: $17.13/hr
